Michael Dudey
September 6, 1959 - August 16, 2026
The family of Michael Dudey is heartbroken to announce his passing on August 16, 2026, at the age of 66. After a courageous 15-month battle with cholangiocarcinoma, Michael passed away peacefully with his wife, Suzanne, and his daughters, Nastashia and Marissa, by his side.
Michael was born on September 6, 1959, in Kelvington, Saskatchewan. More than anything, he loved his family and friends. He and the love of his life, Suzanne, shared 41 wonderful years of marriage, building a life and family together that meant everything to him.
A lifelong prankster and jokester, Michael loved to laugh, but he loved making others laugh even more. He had a wonderful sense of humour and a way of making life more fun for everyone around him. Michael loved fishing, the outdoors, and spending time at two of his favourite places - the family cabin and farm in Lac La Biche. These were his happy places, where some of the family’s most treasured memories were made.
A welder and entrepreneur, Michael was never very good at retirement. When he decided to return to the pipeline, he went back to school and earned the certifications he needed to begin this new chapter. He was proud to spend his later working years outdoors on major Canadian projects, including Coastal GasLink and the Trans Mountain Expansion.
Michael leaves behind his beloved wife, Suzanne; his daughters and sons-in-law, Nastashia and Adam, Marissa and Jordan, and his seven grandchildren, Lola, Harrison, Olive, Weston, Sullivan, Harvey and Alex. Being Grandpa was one of the greatest joys of his life, and the special relationship he shared with each of his grandchildren meant the world to him.
He is also survived by his siblings, Deanna, Miles, Dwayne (Erin), Bartley (Christine), Brent, Shawn and Darcy; Suzanne’s siblings, Cheryl (Fred), Kathleen and Brad (Robin); and many nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart. Michael was predeceased by his parents, Ione, Wayne and Mike; his brother, Murray; and his nephew, Michael.
Michael will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his quick wit, his mischievous sense of humour and his love for his family and friends. Life simply won’t be the same without him. Our family would like to extend a special thank you to the compassionate staff of Unit 51 at the Grey Nuns Community Hospital for the kindness and care they gave Michael.
A celebration of Michael’s life will be held on Thursday, August 27 at 6:30pm at The River Room - 53538 Range Road 232, Sherwood Park, Alberta. We warmly welcome all those whose lives were touched by Michael to join us in celebrating and remembering him.
The family encourages everyone whose life was touched by Michael to share a favourite story, memory, video, or photo by emailing memoriesofmichaeldudey@gmail.com His family plans to create a book filled with these memories to treasure for years to come.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to MS Canada, a cause that was very close to Michael’s heart and continues to be deeply important to our family.
