Karyn Mary Wight
December 30, 1948 - July 20, 2026
On July 20th, 2026, Mrs. Karyn Wight passed away at age 77 after a battle with cancer. She grew up in the Highlands area of Edmonton, and attended Eastglen High School, where she graduated grade 12 with honours, in 1963.
She was accepted into the University of Alberta, where she studied various courses, with particular interest in art, history, education. Karyn was an avid tennis player, and loved swimming, and attended many social events.
She worked as a teacher aide for severely handicapped children, in the Lethbridge school system, until 1978. On a move to Calgary late 1978, she worked for a downstream oil & gas publishing company in a clerical capacity, a side benefit of the move was the 1988 Winter Olympics.
A further move in 1994 saw her move to Sherwood Park. Karyn was an avid gardener, loved nature, and animals (in particular, was her love of dogs). Recently, with her husband Ron, she also became an avid birdwatcher. She was also a long time member of the Sherwood Park Quilt Guild, and was an accomplished hand quilter, making many dozens of quilts and winning 1st and 2nd prizes at a quilt show.
She was predeceased by her parents, Olga and Maurice DeBlieck, and is survived by her Husband Ron, and Daughter Jennifer.
