Patricia Ann Guiney

In Memoriam

Patricia Ann Guiney

June 7th, 1955 – March 29th, 2024

God saw you getting tired, when a cure was not to be, He closed his arms around you, and whispered “Come to Me.” You didn’t deserve what you went through, and so He gave you rest. God’s garden must be beautiful, He only takes the best. So, when we saw you sleeping, so peaceful and free from pain, we could not wish you back to us, to suffer that again.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Patricia Ann Guiney. She passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the age of 68, after a valiant five-year battle with cancer. Patricia leaves behind her loving and dedicated partner Timothy Cleary; children Adam (Jennifer), Kelly (Jason), and Daniel; grandchildren Pierce, Graeme, Alice, Greyson, and Clara; and her wee puppy Sage. She also leaves behind sister Toni Stewart and nephew Chris Stewart, ex-husband Bill Guiney, and family overseas in Northern Ireland.

Patricia was originally born in Edmonton, though she would spend many of her formative years growing up between Toronto and Belfast, Northern Ireland. In 1979, Patricia permanently moved back to Edmonton with her first husband, Bill, eventually settling in Sherwood Park where she would begin to build her life and raise three children. After building such an idyllic life here in Canada, it would appear as though Patricia had achieved all her aspirations, but there was still far more adventure for her on the horizon. Patricia met Timothy Cleary in 2005 and after their first of many trips to Venice, Italy, Patricia knew she had truly found her soulmate. Her favourite hobbies included both gardening and reading, herself being an avid reader who enjoyed everything from cookbooks to fiction to true stories, or her personal favorite, mystery novels. In the book of Patricia’s life, she dedicated her time to the things that made her happiest. Patricia was most at peace while vacationing and spending precious quality time with her family. Otherwise, you would often find Patricia and Timothy enjoying the summers outdoors at their RV lot, spending their free time playing golf, going on walks, barbecuing, and watching Coronation Street in the evenings. Patricia also loved watching cooking shows, experimenting with new food ideas, and preparing large holiday dinners for her family. Cooking came naturally to Patricia, and in the same way that food gives comfort and brings people together, so did Patricia’s kind and calming nature. She was the definition of class, her beauty shining through every selfless act, and every warm embrace. Patricia will be most remembered for her beauty, positive attitude, strength, wisdom, and cutting wit.

We are so very grateful for all the years we had together and will cherish them for the rest of our lives. Thank you for being an amazing wife, partner, incredible mother, warm hearted granny, and an unshakable presence in our lives. Your absence has created a hole we can never fill, but you will live on forever in our hearts.

Patricia spent her final moments at the Gene Zwozdesky Norwood Centre. The family is so grateful to all the staff for their wonderful support this past month. In lieu of flowers, donations in Patricia’s memory can be made to the Cross Cancer Institute.

A Celebration of Life will be held On May 11th from 12pm-4pm at the University of Alberta Botanic Gardens.
